Obverse description Right-facing bust of Emperor Theodosius I, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed, with paludamentum visible at the shoulder. The effigy displays the characteristic late Roman imperial portrait style, with carefully rendered facial features and layered military dress. The circumferential legend D N THEODOSIVS P F AVG runs around the bust, partly visible on the irregular flan. The die work reflects the competent but somewhat formulaic style typical of the Thessalonica mint in the 380s AD.
