Godas was a Vandal officer appointed governor of Sardinia who, in 533, broke from the Vandal kingdom and sent envoys to Constantinople requesting Byzantine military support. His rebellion forced the Vandal king Gelimer to divert naval resources to Sardinia — a strategic miscalculation that left North Africa exposed precisely when Belisarius landed with his invasion fleet. Godas was dead and his revolt crushed within months, making his coinage one of the shortest-lived autonomous issues of the Migration Period.
