| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse, heavily worn and obscured by green patina and surface corrosion, depicts a monogram of Anastasius I within the field, as is characteristic of this nummus type struck at the Thessalonica mint. The monogram, typical of MIB I N39, is rendered in the simple schematic style common to the smallest copper denominations of the period. No distinct exergual inscription or mint mark is readily visible on this example, though the Thessalonica mint mark (TES or similar) would be expected on well-preserved specimens. The flat, irregular flan and variable die alignment are consistent with the hammered production methods employed at this mint during Anastasius I's reign. |
