Reverse description Plain reverse field with no inscription, decorative motif, or ornamentation. A central square perforation is surrounded by a flat, featureless field bounded by a raised inner rim around the hole and a plain outer rim. The surface exhibits an even blue-green cuprite and malachite patina indicative of prolonged burial, typical of Vietnamese cast copper cash coins of the medieval period.

Additional information

Issued under Emperor Trần Minh Tông, whose reign saw the Trần dynasty stabilizing after the catastrophic Mongol invasions of the late thirteenth century had disrupted Vietnamese trade and coinage production entirely. The cash coin format followed Chinese precedent closely, as Vietnamese rulers consistently modeled their currency systems on Song and Yuan prototypes while maintaining distinct reign titles.

At 1.7g, these struck light even by Vietnamese cash standards of the period — likely reflecting copper supply constraints rather than debasement policy.
