Beschrijving voorzijde Facing lion scalp rendered in archaic style, depicted frontally with broad, rounded muzzle and prominent forehead lobes; the facial features are boldly modeled in high relief with a striated mane border encircling the design. The treatment is characteristic of early Ionian electrum coinage, with the lion mask occupying the full flan. No legend or inscription is present in the field.

Aanvullende informatie

The hemihekte denomination — one-twelfth of a stater — sits at the practical floor of early Lydian and Ionian electrum coinage, small enough that producing consistent weight standards across issues was genuinely difficult. Rosen 283 attributes this piece to an uncertain Ionian mint, which is itself telling: civic identity was already being stamped into coin by 600 BC, but not every issuing authority has been matched to a city with confidence after two and a half millennia of scholarship.

The "my-" type designation groups a cluster of related devices used by numismatists to organize pieces whose civic origin remains unresolved.
