| Reverse description | Central device consisting of five stylized escutcheons arranged in a quincunx pattern, each bearing pellets, derived from the Portuguese royal arms and recalling the five wounds of Christ. The escutcheons are interspersed with six five-pointed stars, all executed in the bold, high-relief hammered style typical of early Portuguese medieval gold coinage. The entire central motif is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The peripheral legend in Gothic Latin script reads MONETA DOMINI SANCII, identifying the coin as the money of Lord Sancho. The design reflects the nascent heraldic iconography of the early Portuguese monarchy. |
