The legend, arranged in five horizontal lines, reads in abbreviated form identifying the emperors as Leo and Constantine, born of God, Basileis. The text is executed in the angular, compressed letterforms typical of Byzantine miliaresia of the late eighth century. A raised inner beaded border encloses the legend, with an additional outer beaded border completing the coin's periphery. The inscription's layout and formula conform precisely to the standard type established for joint-reign miliaresia struck at Constantinople. |
