Obverse description A bold cross potent set upon three steps occupies the central field, rendered in high relief characteristic of mid-Byzantine hammered coinage. The cross is depicted with pronounced arms and a sturdy base rising from a three-tiered platform, conveying imperial and Christian authority. Surrounding the central motif, the invocatory legend IҺSЧS XRISTЧS NICA — 'Jesus Christ conquers' — is arranged in four segments within the field, a hallmark of the miliaresion denomination. The coin is bordered by a raised dotted inner circle, itself framed by a beaded outer border. The overall style reflects the refined but robust die-cutting tradition of the Constantinople mint during the reign of Leo IV.

Reverse description The reverse bears a multi-line Greek inscription filling the entire field, presenting the imperial titulature of the co-ruling emperors Leo IV and Constantine VI. The legend, arranged in five horizontal lines, reads in abbreviated form identifying the emperors as Leo and Constantine, born of God, Basileis. The text is executed in the angular, compressed letterforms typical of Byzantine miliaresia of the late eighth century. A raised inner beaded border encloses the legend, with an additional outer beaded border completing the coin's periphery. The inscription's layout and formula conform precisely to the standard type established for joint-reign miliaresia struck at Constantinople.
