He holds a long spear in his right hand and a globus cruciger in his left, symbols of universal Christian sovereignty. A star appears in the right field. The legend GLORIA ROMANORVM encircles the figure, with the mint mark COB inscribed in the exergue, indicating the Constantinople mint. The composition follows the established iconographic formula of the triumphant Christian emperor as intercessor between heaven and earth. |
