| Obverse description | Two conjoined beaded oval frames contain facing busts in high relief: the Empress Eugénie facing right on the left, and Emperor Napoleon III facing left on the right, their portraits nearly touching at centre. Above, a spread eagle with outstretched wings surmounts a radiating sunburst and an imperial crown, while a Legion of Honour cross pendant hangs at the junction of the two frames. The field is flanked by elaborate floral and foliate sprays including roses, oak leaves, and thistles, with the legend and maker's name inscribed below. |
