Obverse description Two conjoined beaded oval frames contain facing busts in high relief: the Empress Eugénie facing right on the left, and Emperor Napoleon III facing left on the right, their portraits nearly touching at centre. Above, a spread eagle with outstretched wings surmounts a radiating sunburst and an imperial crown, while a Legion of Honour cross pendant hangs at the junction of the two frames. The field is flanked by elaborate floral and foliate sprays including roses, oak leaves, and thistles, with the legend and maker's name inscribed below.

Reverse description The centre of the reverse features a fasces entwined with an olive branch and surmounted by a scroll inscribed UNITED, flanked by four flags — the Union Jack and the French Tricolour — arranged symmetrically in high relief. The circumferential legend runs around the full border of the field, with the date in the lower exergue area.
