Obverse description A canal boat is depicted being drawn to the right by a horseman along the towpath, with a panoramic view of Haarlem visible in the background; two bells are suspended above the scene flanking a cartouche bearing the motto VICIT VIM VIRTVS. In the lower field, the oval arms of Haarlem are displayed between two rampant lion supporters, surrounded by crossed cannons, banners, and other military trophies. A circular legend runs around the entire border of the medal.
