Tire, a town in western Anatolia near Izmir, functioned as a regional mint during Bayezid II's reign partly because of its commercial importance as a market center for the surrounding agricultural hinterland. Anonymous copper manghirs of this period are notoriously difficult to attribute with certainty — the absence of a sultan's name means attribution relies almost entirely on mint signature, die style, and arabesque type, and misattributions between reigns are common in the literature.
