Obverse description Irregular bean-shaped (mameitagin) hammered billon flan displaying a central large kanji character 寳 (Treasure/Hō) in bold relief, surrounded on all sides by multiple repetitions of the kanji 永 (Ei/Eternity) distributed across the field in a characteristic scattered arrangement. The legends are incuse-stamped into the slightly convex surface, exhibiting the typical rough, textured quality of Edo-period hand-hammered silver coinage. The field shows the characteristic uneven surface and natural flow lines produced by the hammering process, with the inscriptions applied by repeated die striking onto the irregular planchet.
