The pearl diadem is tied at the rear with a double strand of beads, its ends trailing behind the neck. The emperor's short beard, characteristic of Julian's distinctive iconography and his philosophical affiliation, is finely rendered. The paludamentum is fastened at the shoulder with a round brooch, and the cuirass is visible beneath the drapery. The encircling Latin legend reads D N IVLIANVS NOB CAES, identifying him as Caesar. |

In the exergue, the mint mark NIKA appears flanked by palm branches extending from each side, denoting the first officina of the Nicomedia mint. |
