Obverse description Right-facing bust of Emperor Arcadius, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed, rendered in the late antique imperial style characteristic of the Theodosian dynasty. The effigy shows the emperor in three-quarter view with paludamentum fastened at the shoulder, the cuirass visible at the truncation. The encircling Latin legend runs along the outer border of the field. The portrait displays the stylised, frontalising tendency of late Roman provincial die-cutting, with the diadem of pearls clearly articulated above the brow.

(Translation: Our Lord Arcadius Pious Fortunate Augustus)
