Hicetas ruled Syracuse through one of the most turbulent decades in the city's history, navigating wars against Carthage, internal faction fighting, and the catastrophic arrival of Pyrrhus of Epirus in 278 BC — whose intervention effectively ended his reign. The bronze coinage of this period was issued under genuine military and fiscal pressure, not administrative routine.
