Additional information

Hicetas ruled Syracuse through one of the most turbulent decades in the city's history, navigating wars against Carthage, internal faction fighting, and the catastrophic arrival of Pyrrhus of Epirus in 278 BC — whose intervention effectively ended his reign. The bronze coinage of this period was issued under genuine military and fiscal pressure, not administrative routine.

The HGC 2, 1447 attribution places this among a well-documented but numerically limited group. Die studies on Syracusan bronze of this phase have shown relatively low production runs compared to the preceding Agathokles issues.
