| Obverse description | Central field dominated by a large Gothic capital letter H, surmounted by a royal crown rendered in relief, the whole enclosed within a plain inner circle. The crowned H serves as the heraldic monogram of Henry I of Albret, King of Navarre and Lord of Béarn. A circular Latin legend runs between the inner circle and the coin's irregular hammered border, reading: HENRI. DE: G. REX. NAVAR: D. B, identifying the issuer as Henry, by the grace of God, King of Navarre and Lord of Béarn. The fabric is typical of early sixteenth-century feudal billon coinage, struck on a roughly rounded flan with characteristic uneven edges. |

| Reverse description | Central field features a bold Maltese cross with splayed, concave arms, set within a plain raised inner circle. The cross fills the entire inner circle and is well-defined despite the worn billon surface. Surrounding the inner circle, a circular Latin legend reads: GRA. DEI. SVM. ID QVOD. SVM., translating as 'By the grace of God, I am what I am,' a scriptural motto derived from 1 Corinthians 15:10. The legend is introduced by a cross pattée stop and separated by pellet stops throughout. The outer edge of the coin is irregular, consistent with hammered feudal coinage of the Béarn lordship in the early sixteenth century. |
