背面描述 A bold plain cross pattee divides the reverse field into four equal quarters, each left plain without charges, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The devotional legend SIT NOMEN DOMINI BENEDICTVM (Blessed be the Name of the Lord) runs continuously around the periphery in Gothic lettering, interrupted at the top by a small cross pattee as initial mark. The overall design is characteristic of French Dauphine billon liards of the early sixteenth century, with the cross serving as the primary heraldic device. Strike quality is uneven, consistent with hand-hammered production, and the flan edges are irregular.

附加信息

The Dauphiné had maintained its own coinage rights since its annexation by France in 1349 — the condition under which the last independent dauphin, Humbert II, sold his territories was that the province retain distinct monetary privileges. Francis I continued striking regional liards here rather than absorbing Dauphiné output into the unified royal mint system, a concession to provincial identity that persisted well past the point where it made administrative sense.

The Ciani gap is worth noting for collectors building reference libraries — this type fell outside his classification scheme entirely.
