| 背面描述 | A plain Latin cross at center, contained within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding circular Latin legend reads + . NIL : VLTRA : ARAS : 1553, with the date 1553 incorporated at the close of the inscription. The design is typical of small feudal billon issues of the period, with the motto NIL VLTRA ARAS serving as the baron's device. The flan is irregular and shows typical characteristics of hammered coinage. |

The Barony of Franquemont was a small feudal lordship in the Franche-Comté, and its right to strike coin was perpetually contested by neighboring powers — particularly the Habsburgs, who controlled much of the surrounding territory by the mid-sixteenth century. Nicolas Gilley's issues represent some of the last independent strikes from this barony before such minor minting privileges were effectively absorbed or suppressed under Burgundian administrative pressure. The billon liard was the workhorse denomination of petty commerce in the region, circulating alongside far more authoritative issues it could barely compete with on silver content.
