| Obverse description | A crowned dolphin facing left occupies the central field, serving as the heraldic emblem of the Dauphin of France and a personal device of Henry IV prior to his full consolidation of the French throne. The crown above the dolphin is rendered in the typical late Renaissance style of French hammered coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading HENRICVS 4 D G F ET NA R, identifying Henry IV by the grace of God as King of France and Navarre. A heart-shaped privy mark punctuates the legend. The flan is irregular and slightly worn, consistent with hammered billon coinage of this period. |

| Reverse description | The reverse displays a plain fleurdelisée cross — a cross whose four arms terminate in fleurs-de-lis — centered prominently in the field, a classic motif on French royal petite monnaie of the period. The cross arms are boldly rendered, with the fleur-de-lis terminals clearly articulated despite the worn state of the flan. A circular Latin legend surrounds the design, reading SIT NOMEN D BEN D T, an abbreviated devotional inscription (Sit Nomen Domini Benedictum, Deo et Tibi), a standard reverse legend on Henrician liards. A sun privy mark and the date of issue appear within the legend. The overall style is characteristic of hammered billon production from a French provincial mint of the late sixteenth century. |
