| Obverse description | Two quartered heraldic shields displayed side by side beneath an elaborate Gothic canopy with pinnacles and tracery: the dexter shield bears the quarterly arms of Brabant and Limburg (lion rampant), while the sinister shield displays the quarterly arms of Burgundy (with fleurs-de-lis and diagonal bends). The shields are supported within a pointed architectural framework rendered in fine Gothic style, with the entire composition occupying the coin's field. A circular legend in uncial characters surrounds the design within a beaded border, naming Joanna as Duchess of Brabant and Philip as Duke of Burgundy and Count of Flanders. |
