Obverse description Within a raised inner circle, the ornately decorated arms of Zürich — a per pale field with a lion passant — displayed on a baroque cartouche-style shield, superimposed upon the spread wings and body of a crowned imperial eagle. The eagle's heads flank the shield on either side, with the imperial crown visible above. The circumferential Latin legend REIPVB THVRICENSIS runs around the outer field, identifying the issuing republic.

Reverse description Within a raised inner circle, a bold floriated cross with elaborately scrolled and curling floral terminals at each of the four arms, occupying the central field in a highly decorative Baroque style. The cross arms are rendered with fine beaded or ladder-like detailing along their shafts. The circumferential Latin legend CORONATVS AVREVS 1631 encircles the design, identifying the piece as a gold crown of 1631.
