| Beschrijving voorzijde | On this small wire money (cheshuyка), the obverse depicts a crowned equestrian figure of the Tsar facing right, rendered in the traditional Russian hammered style with bold, schematic relief. The rider is shown in regal attire, holding a lance or sceptre directed downward toward a prostrate figure or serpent beneath the horse's hooves, evoking the conventional St. George typology inherited from earlier Muscovite coinage. The flan is irregular and elongated, typical of the wire-cut planchet technique, causing portions of the design to fall off the coin's edge. The overall execution reflects the archaic artistic conventions of late Moscow wire money, produced immediately before Peter I's monetary reform abolished this coinage type. |
