The inscription, arranged in horizontal lines across the coin, reads 'ЦРЬ И ВЕЛИКIИ КНѦЗЬ ПЕТРЪ АЛЕѮIЕВИЧЬ ВСЕѦ РУСИ' (Tsar and Grand Prince Peter Alekseyevich of All Russia). The bold, blocky Cyrillic letterforms are characteristic of the Moscow Mint wire money production of this period.
