| Obverse description | Effigy of the Tsar rendered as an armored horseman (konnik) mounted on a galloping horse facing right, lance couched and directed forward in the characteristic Russian wire money style. The design is struck in high relief on an irregular planchet, with the abbreviated mint mark letters 'o M' (Moscow Mint) appearing beneath the horse's hooves. The image is characteristic of the traditional Russian kopeck type introduced under Ivan the Terrible and continued under subsequent Romanov rulers. The crude, bold style reflects the hammered wire-money production technique of the period. |
