| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse displays the host coin, a Saxony Thaler struck between 1611 and 1616, featuring a bearded armored bust of the Saxon Elector in right profile at center, surrounded by a circular legend within a beaded inner border, with quartered heraldic shields arranged around the periphery. Superimposed upon the field are two Russian counterstamps applied in 1655 by order of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich: a rectangular cartouche bearing the date '1655' and a oval cartouche depicting a mounted horseman (the so-called 'jezdets') bearing a spear, the traditional emblem of Muscovite coinage. These counterstamps authenticated the foreign taler for circulation within Russia at the value of one rouble. |
