Obverse description Irregular flan of hammered copper with a central Georgian Asomtavruli legend in two lines reading the ruler's name and patronymic, enclosed within a circular border. A peripheral circular legend in Asomtavruli script runs around the inner border, recording the religious invocation and the mint date expressed in the Georgian koronikon era (year 430). The field is unadorned, the legends boldly incuse with characteristic medieval Georgian epigraphy, and the overall strike is typical of the irregular fals coinage of the Georgian Bagratid court. The flan edges are irregular and uneven, consistent with hand-cut planchet preparation.
