The central device and inscriptions are enclosed within a plain inner circle, itself surrounded by a peripheral Kufic border legend rendered largely illegible due to the irregular flan and crude striking. |

The inscription names the Seljuk sultan Mahmud, son of Muhammad, reflecting the political context of Georgian coinage of this period which retained Seljuk titular formulae. |
