| Obverse description | Central field bears the Asomtavruli letter Ⴃ (the initial of King Demetrius I), flanked above and below by Arabic Kufic legends, the upper inscription oriented inverted. The central device and inscriptions are enclosed within a plain inner circle, itself surrounded by a peripheral Kufic border legend rendered largely illegible due to the irregular flan and crude striking. |

| Additional information |
Demetrius I came to the Georgian throne in 1125 following the death of David the Builder, inheriting both a dramatically expanded kingdom and its nascent copper coinage infrastructure. These irregular AE issues reflect the transitional monetary conditions of his early reign, when Georgian minting practice had not yet settled into the regularity that would characterize later issues. The "Type 1" designation marks the earliest attributable series under his authority.
