| Beschrijving voorzijde | Two imperial figures standing facing within a dotted border on a scyphate (cup-shaped) flan: at left, the young Emperor John V Palaiologos crowned and robed in imperial loros, and at right, his mother the Empress-Regent Anna of Savoy similarly crowned and richly attired, both holding regalia. Above each figure appears a small bust of a saint or the Virgin offering crowns in the traditional Byzantine proskynesis investiture formula. The field is characteristically flat and worn, consistent with the heavily debased gold fabric of late Palaiologan coinage. |
