The shell rests upon a flat base with two small rounded lobes at the lower margin, suggestive of the shell's hinge. The design fills the flan with bold, confident engraving characteristic of Tarentine coinage of the late Classical period. The field surrounding the shell is plain and unadorned, with no legend or inscription present. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with the hand-hammered technique of the period. |
