Eryx was a Elymian hilltop city on the northwestern tip of Sicily, culturally distinct from the Greek colonies dominating the island's coinage. The Elymians claimed Trojan ancestry and maintained close ties with Carthage, making their silver issues — produced in a region otherwise associated with Punic bronze — something of a numismatic outlier. At 0.31g, the hemilitra sits at the extreme low end of practical silver coinage, likely serving highly localized exchange needs rather than inter-city trade.
Campana 16 is among the scarcer die combinations in the Erycan sequence.
