The Achaean League's federal coinage was a deliberate political instrument — small silver fractions circulated alongside the larger hemidrachms to facilitate commerce across member poleis while projecting a unified Peloponnesian identity at a moment when Roman power was already restructuring Greek political life after the destruction of Corinth in 146 BC. Tegea, an Arcadian city with deep roots in the League, continued striking under the federal types well into the final quarter of the second century.
By this period the League itself existed in a considerably reduced political capacity under Roman oversight.
