Obverse description Forepart of a lion shown in right profile, the head dramatically turned back to face left, mouth open to reveal the tongue. The mane is rendered in finely engraved overlapping layers of stylised curls, conveying powerful naturalistic detail characteristic of Thracian Chersonesos coinage. The forelegs are extended forward with the paws clearly articulated, and the body truncated at the hindquarters. The design fills the rounded flan with high relief, set against a smooth, unlettered field.
