| Obverse description | Facing head of Apollo, nearly full face with a very slight three-quarter turn to the right, rendered in the distinctive Milesian style with softly modelled features and parted lips. The deity is crowned with a laurel wreath whose leaves and berries are rendered in fine relief, framing the face on all sides. Long locks of hair fall to either side of the neck, partially visible at the coin's edge. The portrait fills the flan with monumental presence, characteristic of the skilled die-engravers active at Miletos in the early second century BC. |
