| Descrizione del dritto | Facing head of the eponymous nymph Gyrtone, rendered in fine Classical style, turned very slightly to the left. The hair is elaborately dressed and bound with an ampyx (a broad metallic diadem across the brow), with loose, wavy locks escaping at the sides framing the face. The modelling of the facial features is sensitive and assured, characteristic of Thessalian die-cutting of the mid-fourth century BC. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | A horse standing to the right in the act of kneeling or preparing to lie down, its forelegs bent beneath its body, rendered with vigorous plasticity typical of Thessalian coinage. The inscription ΤΩΝΙΩΝ is disposed above the horse's back in the upper field, and ΓΥΡ appears below in the exergual area, serving as the ethnic abbreviation for Gyrton. The irregular flan shows the characteristic broad, flat fabric of Thessalian silver hemidrachms of this period. |
