Hemidrachm

Parion sat on the Propontis at a strategically awkward crossing point between the Aegean world and the Black Sea routes, which made it prosperous and periodically contested. The hemidrachm series from this period — the last decades before Alexander's conquests reshuffled the monetary order across Anatolia — was likely struck while the city operated under loose Persian suzerainty, issuing its own silver with a degree of autonomy that would not survive the Macedonian reorganization intact.
