Trikka was among the earliest Greek cities to strike coins featuring the centaur Thessalos — or possibly the hero Trikkas himself — in a tradition that predates the more famous Larissa coinage. The city sat in the upper Peneios valley in Thessaly proper, controlling territory that included the sanctuary of Asklepios at Trikka, which ancient sources including Strabo identify as the oldest healing shrine to that god in the Greek world, predating even Epidauros.
The BCD collection, assembled by a single private collector over decades, remains the definitive reference for Thessalian bronzes and silvers of this period. His #1352 is among a tight cluster of hemidrachms attributable to this mint on die-linkage evidence alone.
