The Amphictyonic League controlled Delphi and its sanctuary revenues, and their coinage authority was directly tied to administration of the sanctuary rather than to any single polis. This hemidrachm was struck during an exceptionally compressed window — the precise years when Philip II of Macedon had just been assassinated and Alexander III had not yet consolidated control over Greece, leaving the League briefly operating with unusual autonomy from Macedonian political pressure.
