Reverse description A large serpent coiled in multiple tiers around the sacred omphalos stone, which is depicted covered with a knotted net or bosses in characteristic Delphic iconographic tradition. The serpent's scales are rendered with fine detail, its head rising above the coils at upper right. The Amphictyonic league ethnic ΑΜΦΙΚΤΙΟΝΩΝ is inscribed in Greek letters arranged in a semicircular fashion around the upper field, flanking the serpent on both sides. The overall composition powerfully evokes the Delphic sanctuary and its religious significance.
