| 裏面の説明 | A kithara (lyre) depicted facing, with multiple strings finely engraved between two curved arms, all contained within a dotted square border. The ethnic legend MA-BY is inscribed across the upper arms of the instrument, with individual letters distributed left and right. A bee appears in the lower right field outside the kithara, serving as a civic symbol of Methymna. The composition is well-centered within the incuse square. |

Methymna was the second city of Lesbos — politically and commercially distinct from Mytilene, with which it maintained an often antagonistic relationship throughout the Classical and early Hellenistic periods. The city's silver coinage is scarce relative to its larger neighbor, reflecting either a more restricted minting program or significant losses to circulation and melting. The HGC 6, 907 variety designation indicates this piece diverges from the primary type in at least one die detail, though the specific variation is not always documented with precision in the literature.
