Reverse description Facing gorgoneion rendered in lower relief than the obverse, occupying the full field of the irregular flan. The mask displays the characteristic archaic features — wide almond-shaped eyes, a broad nose, and a partially open mouth — surrounded by a wreath-like border of beaded or dotted ornament around the cranium. The reverse type mirrors the obverse in iconographic program, a convention well attested on Lesbian electrum hektai of this period, with the entire design contained within a shallow incuse square produced by the hammer blow of the reverse die.
