The facial features are finely modelled in the Hellenistic tradition, with a prominent nose and well-defined lips. Loose locks of hair escape beneath the helmet and fall along the neck. She wears a stephane or an elephant-skin head-dress, an iconographic detail alluding to the Galatian king's connection to the Seleucid and Ptolemaic traditions. In her extended hand she carries a long sceptre. The Greek legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ appears above and ΑΜΥΝΤΟΥ below or flanking the figure, identifying the issuing authority as King Amyntas of Galatia. |
