The arms of Guelders-Jülich appear at his feet in the lower field. The circumferential legend in Gothic uncial characters reads MONE IOV AVRE GELR, proclaiming this a new gold coinage of Guelders. The overall design follows the tradition of the Rhenish goldgulden type, with the sacred figure lending religious authority to the ducal issue. |
