Obverse description Central field displays a trefoil arrangement of three heraldic shields bearing the arms of Guelders, Jülich, and Zutphen, surmounted by a crowned helm with a lion crest. The composition is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the circumferential legend in Gothic uncial characters reading KAROL9 DVX GEL` IVL` CO` ZVT`, identifying Charles as Duke of Guelders and Jülich and Count of Zutphen. The outer border is decorated with a continuous floral and foliate wreath typical of late-medieval Rhenish gold coinage. The hammered fabric is irregular, consistent with hand-struck production of the period.

Reverse description Christ standing facing in full figure within a Gothic architectural or mandorla-style frame, right hand raised in benediction and left hand holding a globus cruciger. The arms of Guelders-Jülich appear at his feet in the lower field. The circumferential legend in Gothic uncial characters reads MONE IOV AVRE GELR, proclaiming this a new gold coinage of Guelders. The overall design follows the tradition of the Rhenish goldgulden type, with the sacred figure lending religious authority to the ducal issue.
