Two small rosette or cinquefoil ornaments flank the crown at mid-field. Below the crown, the royal legend is inscribed in three lines across the field in bold Latin characters: SIG: III: D: G / REX: POL / M: D: L, abbreviating Sigismund III, by the Grace of God, King of Poland, Grand Duke of Lithuania. Additional information

The grosz koronny series under Sigismund III was produced across a span of severe monetary instability in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, with successive debasements gradually eroding the coin's silver content from its nominal standard. Kraków's royal mint, operating under lease arrangements with private entrepreneurs rather than direct crown management, was chronically accused of producing underweight pieces — a charge that generated repeated Sejm investigations throughout this period.

The broad date range of Kop#770–811 reflects dozens of documented die combinations, some differing only in mintmaster initials. Collectors working this series seriously key on those initials first.
