| Obverse description | Central field depicts the gateway of Genoa (castello), shown as a turreted arch with an open doorway and a central boss, rendered in bold relief characteristic of medieval Genoese hammered coinage. The gateway is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the surrounding legend in uncial Latin script reading outward in the field between the beaded circle and the coin's irregular edge.
