Battista of Campofregoso's tenure as Doge was itself a product of faction — his family had seized and lost Genoese power repeatedly across the fifteenth century, and his 1478 restoration came directly after the city briefly fell under Milanese influence. The Sforza interlude had disrupted Genoese minting significantly, making issues struck under his restored authority a distinct break from the preceding regime's coinage.
He was deposed again in 1483 by Agostino Campofregoso, his own kinsman.
