| Obverse description | A lion passant to the left occupies the central field, bearing on its breast the heraldic shield of Ligny — depicting a crowned lion beneath a three-point label of difference. The beast is rendered in the stylised Gothic manner typical of Low Countries billon coinage of the early fifteenth century. A beaded inner circle frames the device, while the surrounding legend is separated from the field by a cable or beaded border. The inscription names John of Luxembourg in his capacity as Count of Ligny. |

| Reverse description | A plain cross extends to the inner circle, dividing the field into four quarters and interrupting the surrounding legend at four points. Each quarter of the cross is charged with a letter from the abbreviated place name LUCB' — representing Luxembourg — arranged one letter per quarter: B' in the first, L in the second, C in the third, and U in the fourth. The overall composition follows the standard groat format common to northern French and Low Countries feudal mints of the period. A beaded border encloses the design, and the outer legend names the issuing mint of Elincourt. |
